Olivia Thomas grew up in the United States and abroad in a military family. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, she completed law school at the University of Virginia. Upon graduation from law school, she accepted an associate attorney position with the Houston law firm of Bracewell & Patterson and became licensed to practice law in Texas in 1984.
At Bracewell & Patterson, Olivia was part of the business law group and represented banks and other financial institutions in complex transactions. Later, she gained experience in commercial litigation with Houston trial law firms Marshall & Lewis and Fibich Hampton.
Seeking a more collaborative and flexible law practice that focuses on the needs of families and individuals, Olivia has developed her own specialization in probate law and estate planning. As someone who has experienced the challenges of assisting an aging parent, she considers it a privilege to be able to help clients prepare carefully for difficult life transitions. This has been the most personally rewarding phase of her legal career.
Olivia is also a firm believer in community service. She is an active member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and serves on the St. Anne’s Grants Outreach Committee. She has volunteered at the non-profit Christian Community Service Center for several years, both as a financial aid interviewer and as a member of a long-range planning committee. She is a docent at Bayou Bend, the American decorative arts wing of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She has also provided pro bono legal services through Catholic Charities of Galveston-Houston and the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. Olivia is married and the proud mother of 3 young adults.
